The message is:

i think it would have been as (ir)relevant if the story took place today, using the iraq war as a backdrop instead of the vietnam war. it didn't surprise me to see the civil rights movement was used only as a backdrop: the shot value; good drama.

some violence with lots of blood, a poor little innocent russian girl who gets raped and dies giving birth, bad greedy backward turks who is ready to do anything for money and power, some body chopping and this is another film where the main female character is suffering from a loss of a child. most of her actions if not all are driven by her emotions. i.e. she is pretty stupid.

if you don't mind the problems with the script the film is ok to watch. naomi watts' acting is good as usual.

some funny jokes. but generally sexist. women are portrait as erratic, crazy, stupid when they live life according to their own feelings. the donkey joke at the end speaks million words. I wish the donkey for the person who included the joke in the film.

in short, you will laugh at some jokes, but probably you can find something better to make you laugh.

Bad people have red eyes and sometimes brown, good ones have blue. Evil people are black, and are non-Christians, they speak languages other than English. Women are weak, sinful and they hardly anything more than sexual partners. They have no other purpose than looking after sick and pleasing or complementing the male.
